He Told Me: "Go To God Alone."

I want to share with you an encounter that really impacted me spiritually.

I once asked one of my teachers if He knew of any books that would help connect me to the akhira (hereafter). He responded by saying " The Qur'an."

I then said, "I meant scholarly books written about the topic."

He repeated, "The Qur'an."

And then he said something to me that I felt answered so many more questions than the one I was asking.

He said, "Stop trying to take people with you, go to God alone."

I know logically, many questions might come up after an answer like that. But I didn't need to ask any further questions. It was one of those moments in which I felt my heart just being at peace with the answer. It understood the intended message.

He wasn't telling me not to study or learn from other scholars, for He is a great scholar himself who studied under giants who walked this earth, but what he was addressing was our heart's dependence sometimes on others to understand God, or to grow spiritually. He was addressing our need to go to the creation before the Creator, our tendency to constantly listen to a YouTube lectures or get fast & easy knowledge, but rarely pick up the Qur'an and consistently develop a direct relationship with God's words and access the unfiltered meanings that God has for each reader.

He is a teacher who was always pointing us to God and not him or any scholar. He was pointing me in the direction of having a direct connection with the Qur'an before always going to others' interpretation of it.

The Qur'an will always speak to every individual heart. And while it is important to study and read the works of many who have spent their lives interpreting this great Book, we cannot depend on that alone. Because we will miss out on the many messages, meanings, and blessings that God has for each individual heart that opens the Qur'an, ready for God to speak directly to them.

May God bless all those who point us directly to Him and help us cultivate a direct, authentic, and fulfilling relationship with Him!
